Temp Lt Griffith Daniel Ellis, a native of Aberystwyth, was educated at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, and graduated in 1904 then in 1909 he became a member of staff of the Liverpool Institute of High Schools. 1910 he was commissioned in the Liverpool Regt and helped to train the Officer Training Corps. On the outbreak of war he helped to train the Liverpool ?Pals? Bn serving on the Unattached List. Gazetted (28/12/14) Temp Lt to 16th Bn RWF and promoted Temp Capt (3/1/15). He embarked for France in Dec 1915. Was wounded 15th Oct 1916 on the Canal Bank, then gazetted (1/12/17) attached to the 64th Trg. Res Bn (old 21st/22nd Res Bns ) and later when transferred to the General List he remained attached to the battalion. Was seconded to the 23rd Cheshire Regt in France and awarded the MC. Between the wars he was connected with the Officer Training Corps. He commanded the 84th Bn Home Guard during the second world war. Died Sefton Hospital 15th Jun 1965


MC Citation :- For conspicuous gallantry and resource in carrying out dangerous personal reconnaissance of machine gun positions, with the result that the unit was able to successfully cope with them. He has been conspicuous for his energy and initiative in action.
